Care (pronounced “CAR-aye”) is the ancient name used by the Romans to refer to the town of Cariñena, in the Aragón region of Spain, along the French border. In the English-speaking world, it also refers to the care and respect embodied in these wines. Each label is an original work from artist Enrique Torrijos, and depicts an image inspired by primitive art, an homage to the tradition of creativity in this region.
A 50/50 blend of Macabeo and Chardonnay, this wine brings together a native Spanish grape with the globally grown Chardonnay. The novel marriage of these two varietals has produced a wine that offers the nose intense and lively scents of flowers and herbs. A well-balanced wine, its mouth feel is very fresh. Pairs well with fish and white meats.
The Syrah and Garnacha grapes comprising this wine are from Care’s own vineyards, where pre-fermentation cold maceration takes place over four days, followed by fermentation at 28 degrees Celsius. Fruit is the pervading characteristic of this wine with aromas of black cherry and ripe red fruit. Very capable of standing alone, it can also be paired with roast meats or rich salads.
This 50/50 Garnacha-Syrah blend is made from older vines, and aged in American oak, giving it a different character than its counterpart. It has a rich, deep color. Berry aromas give way to hints of toffee, with both sweet and savory notes, and a long finish. This wine pairs excellently with roast meats and rich salads.
This Tempranillo/Merlot blend shows off its rich Spanish personality by presenting a spectrum of fruit. A pre-fermentation cold maceration occurs over five days, followed by fermentation in truncated conical stainless steel tanks with the skins for 15 days, and malolactic fermentation also in the tanks. Aged in American for 12 months, the end result displays red cherry and purple colors. The nose perceives a heavy, yet clean fruit presence, including ripe red and black fruit, a touch of spice, and some minerality. Plum and dark fruit mark the palate, along with oak flavors and a long finish. This wine goes well with red meats and Asian fusion dishes.
Finca Bancales Garnacha Reserva
Our finest offering from Care, this wine is a blend of estate grown Garnacha from 80-year-old vines and Cabernet Suavignon from 30-year-old vines. Maceration takes place over six days, followed by alcoholic fermentation in conical stainless steel tanks, and then another round of maceration on the skins for 20 days. Malolactic fermentation occurs in small barrels, and the wine is aged 13 months in American and French oak. The result is full-bodied, with ripe fruits and hints of spice and licorice on the nose. The palate is spicy with elements of barrel age, finishing powerfully with dark fruit and herbs. It’s best served decanted with meat dishes, game, and stews.
